State Rep. Lance Harvell (R, ME): Why Should Insurance Plans Cover Pap Smears?

And they just keep rolling in!

Idiots, I mean.

Maine State Representative Lance Herville (R) doesn't believe insurance plans should cover pap smears.

Why?

Because they make people in good health pay for medical treatment of people in bad health.

Say what?

Pap smears, are of course, a preventative measure. It's a screening test for cancer, you dumbass.

Don Pridemore and Glenn Grothman: Anti-Woman, Anti-Reproductive Freedom

Wisconsin Representative Don Pridemore and State Senator Glenn Grothman (R, unsurprisingly) are two of those "less government" lawmakers-- if less government means passing laws to mess with peoples' lives.

Pridemore is co-sponsor of Wisconsin's "Being Single Causes Child Abuse" bill. The bill, which was introduced by Grothman,  equivocates non-marital parenthood with child abuse.

Both lawmakers are blaming women for an increase in single-parent families.

Grothman said, "There's been a huge change over the last 30 years, and a lot of that change has been the choice of the women... "

Pridemore goes further; he would like to outlaw divorce under any circumstances, even in cases of ongoing domestic abuse. When asked about abuse, he said (of women), "If they can refind those reasons and get back to why they got married in the first place it might help," he said.

In other words, they should say in the marriage even if they're getting the shit kicked out of them and are in fear of their lives.

This is what happens when compassionate conservatism runs amok.

Georgia Senate Republicans Punish Women, Everyone

Georgia Senate Republicans Punish Women, Everyone
Some senators last week approved truly terrible legislation, including bills that require welfare applicants to pass a drug test, prohibit the state employees' health insurance plan from covering abortion services, and prohibit picketers from protesting labor disputes outside the homes of corporate executives. And that's just a sampling.

-- Creative Loafing Atlanta, 15-21 March, 2012, p. 12
Face it. Republicans hate people. And they want to mess with their lives-- stop them from doing all sorts of things they want to do and make them do all sorts of things they don't want to do. Understand this: These folks are the American Taliban. They want to take us back to 1952 or maybe 2 a.d.

Joe Biden Is Like Your Nice But Vulgar Uncle Ernie

On many levels Vice-President Joe Biden is a man to admire, but he has an unfortunate tendency to say some amazingly inept things. He just can't seem to control himself.

Most recently he made a joke about lubrication at a White House reception for Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny.
You know there’s an old Irish saying," Biden said. "There’s all kinds of old Irish sayings. At least my Grandfather Finnegan, I think he made them up, but it says, may the hinges of our friendship never go rusty. Well, with these two folks that you’re about to meet, if you haven’t already, there’s no doubt about them staying oiled and lubricated here. Ladies and gentlemen -- (now, for you who are not full Irish in this room, lubricating has a different meaning for us all).

Some of Biden's gaffes are beyond insensitive:
During a speech at a manufacturing plant in New Hampshire, Biden slipped into an Indian accent briefly while speaking about US job loss and call centers abroad, before pulling out, perhaps aware of the kerfuffle he had caused some months back, when he was caught on an open microphone remarking that "You cannot go to a 7-Eleven or a Dunkin' Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I'm not joking".

Anyone can make a gaffe, and everyone does-- George W. Bush and Sarah Palin are famous for theirs-- but the number and nature of Biden's unfortunate utterances are legendary. He truly is a gaffe machine, and as such a political liability.

Hang 'Em High

Mayor Doug Ellison of Menora, N.D. had an idea to enhance tourism.

Unfortunately, it wasn't his brightest moment.

His Honor would like to erect a gallows and stage fake hangings.

He doesn't want to actually hang anyone; he would just like to inject some excitement into the town's tourist industry.

Some people find the idea abhorrent, but Mayor Ellison makes these pages because of the insurance liability such a device would cause.

Mitt Romney, You're Such a Liar, and Rachel Maddow Has Called You Out

"If I'm Lyin,' I'm Dyin'"

Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney has a problem telling the truth. He just can't seem to manage it.

CNN host Rachel Maddow has been calling him out, and I just love it. She leaves no wiggle room for Mr. Etch-A-Sketch.

VA Governor Bob McDonnell (R) Says There is No War on Women

After backing two anti-abortion bills in the Virginia legislature, Governor Bob McDonnell had the temerity to say on CNN:
This "war on women" argument is very unfortunate. It's false, and it's been the political theater for the Democrats for the past couple of months.
A fetal personhood bill would have granted the fetus status as a person; had it passed, it would have criminalized abortion. It passed the House of Delegates, but was fortunately tabled by the Senate until next year.
A bill requiring an invasive transvaginal ultrasound procedure passed both houses and was signed by Governor McDonnell.  The bill "requires a woman undergoing an abortion to have a"'transvaginal ultrasound"-- i.e. to require a doctor to insert a speculum and then an ultrasound probe into her vagina against her will and reflect that image onscreen.

Okay, let's get this straight. You, Governor McDonnell, a member in good standing of the "less government is better" party, advance a bill that virtually rapes women and sign it into law, and then have the goddamned gall to say the war on women is a figment of the Democrats' imagination? Does that pretty much sum it up?

Bob McDonnell, you are a disingenuous bastard. And the voters know it.

Bribery No Deterrent to Political Career

"My credentials as a Chicago politician are impeccable.
I was indicted, after all!"
Shame on those in Chicago who voted for indicted state lawmaker Derrick Smith. Smith won the Democratic primary yesterday, beating his ex-Republican opponent.

On the other hand, rival Tom Swiss may have been a Republican in Democrat's clothing. He is ex-chairman of the Cook County Republican Party. Many of Smith's votes may have been in anticipation of his probable resignation before the November general election; this would allow Democratic officials to pick a replacement Democrat. So maybe I take back the first sentence.

Shame on Smith, who was recorded by Federal prosecutors accepting $7000 in bills from an informant to write a letter in support of a day care center which was applying for a state grant.

And shame on Chicago for being the American center of political corruption.

No Terrorist Attacks in America Under Bush

Back in March 2010, Dana Perino, who was Press Secretary for President George W. Bush from 2007-2009, said on Fox News:
We did not have a terrorist act on our country during President Bush's term.
This was unbelievable! I mean, there was this little thing called 9-11, when terrorists flew two jetliners into the World Trade Center, another into the Pentagon, and crashed a fourth into a field in Pennsylvania. And there were the anthrax letters. There were the Beltway sniper attacks. And of course there was the shoe bomber.

Please take a look here  to see a comprehensive list of failed and successful terrorist attacks on U.S. soil. And please leave a comment if George W. wasn't Prez during nine or ten of them.

In July 2011, Fox News' Eric Boling didn't remember any terrorist attacks on America during George W.'s term, either.

Even more incredibly, Mr. 9-11 himself, yes, the cross-dressing, former Mayor of New York and self-proclaimed hero of September 11, Rudy Giuliani had a fit of the disremembers, too. His disremembering occurred in January, 2010 on Good Morning America: "We had no domestic attacks under Bush. We've had one under Obama."

It's difficult to believe these three supposedly intelligent people conveniently forgot 9-11 and the other terrorist attacks on U.S. soil during Bush's terms. No, I think they just fell in step with the defame-Obama-at-all-costs parade.

Whatever, these three lapses into unfrigingbelievableness disrespect the victims, heroes, and survivors of 9-11 and other attacks and are entirely unfair to President Barack Obama.

But hey! Telling the truth is highly overrated!

Terri Proud: Know-Nothing

Terri Proud always wanted to be on a bandwagon
What can you say?A bandwagon is a bandwagon. And Arizona State Representative Terri Proud (R) of Tucson jumped on the let's-impede-women-seeking-abortion-in-any-way-we-can bandwagon recently by writing an e-mail to a constituent who wrote to her in opposition to an in-process bill that would ban abortions in Arizona after the 20th week of pregnancy (that's about 2/3 of the way through the second trimester):
Personally I'd like to make a law that mandates a woman watch an abortion being performed prior to having a "surgical procedure". If it's not a life it shouldn't matter, if it doesn't harm a woman then she shouldn't care, and don't we want more transparency and education in the medical profession anyway? We demand it everywhere else.

Until the dead child can tell me that she/he does not feel any pain - I have no intentions of clearing the conscience of the living - I will be voting YES.
Erm, Terri, the fact that that dead child can't talk should be telling you something.

I have to wonder-- if women in search of abortions are required to watch an abortion, who will they watch?I mean, this is a chicken and egg sort of thing. Who will be the first, and will she go to jail because she had no one to watch? I mean, Terri, really!

Chuck Winder: Rape Apologist

First in the hot seat is State Senator Chuck Winder of Idaho
Just before the Idaho Senate voted on the Winder-sponsored bill S. 1387, Winder suggested women might claim rape in order to obtain an abortion-- and more, that they might not know when they've been raped.

Winder's bill will require women seeking an abortion-- including women who are victims of rape or incest or who have a medical emergency-- to first have two ultrasounds. Women in their first trimester will be required to have an invasive transvaginal ultrasound and listen to a doctor's graphic description of the fetus.

Winder said:
Rape and incest was used as a reason to oppose this. I would hope that when a woman goes in to a physician with a rape issue, that physician will indeed ask her about perhaps her marriage, was this pregnancy caused by normal relations in a marriage or was it truly caused by a rape.
This is unbelievable. Winder first insults and demeans women by insinuating they are liars and then justifies marital rape

In many cultures, and sometimes still today in our own, marital rape is overlooked, ignored, or justified as the husband's right. Winder's words are beyond brutish.

In The Daily Koss today, Mostly Musician wrote:
Really? Seriously? Does he honestly believe a woman, who has gone through the gut-wrenching, emotional, spiritual turmoil to come to the decision to have an abortion would also want to "fake," "lie," or "pretend" that she had also been violently, physically, sexually, mentally, and emotionally violated by some misogynist poor excuse for humanity so she could could subject herself not only to the guilt, pain, and shame many will heap upon her (in 2012?) for the abortion, but also for the "perceived rape or incest?"
Does he not know how difficult it is even in 2012 for a woman to come forward about being raped BECAUSE idiots like him think they are making it up?
And he thinks we're too stupid to know the difference between a loving, sexual act and a violent, physical assault? I can't believe there are still idiots who believe that. I guess date rape, and marital rape, and incest don't exist either.
She says it better than I could.

The sad thing is Winder is but one small cog in a Republican machine that is seeking-- and succeeding-- to undo decades of slow progress in women's rights by passing draconian state laws place embarrassing and noxious roadblocks between women and medical treatment.

There's nothing to say about a political party that is doing such a thing other than this: They're bullies.

Welcome!

Welcome to Their Lips Are Moving!

Here you'll find politicians at their worst. When a pol does or says something outrageous or stupid, or if he or she just IS outrageous or stupid, this is where their idiocy will be documented.

Whenever I come across political bad behavior or idiocy, I'll post it-- and I'll be looking up past examples.

A word about my political affiliation and identity. I have none. If members of any political affiliation find themselves lampooned here, it's solely due to their unbelievable behavior.
